Well, hello there!

I’m Valerie, the face behind the roses.

Mother Thorn is a small garden rose farm specializing in uniquely romantic, fragrant blooms. Our suburban field is nestled in the quaint hills of Parkville, Missouri, on land where our family roots are deep. My passion for roses drives me to bring the best locally grown blooms to the Kansas City area.

Where our field of roses is situated today, was once the location of my grandparent's garden where an endless bounty of summer vegetables. was grown year after year. So much love and heart was put into that field, producing armloads of sweet corn, softball size tomatoes, countless cucumbers, and enough green beans to can and fill a cellar for the year. The property is where five generations before me farmed livestock  and corn, where my grandmother was born and raised, and where she and my grandfather chose to raise their children. And now, my husband and I are lucky enough to be the sixth generation to call this place home.

The original summer veggie garden my grandparents kept.

Our connection to this property has provided a lifetime of stories and memories for our family. For me, this is where I would climb high into the trees with my sister, sled with our cousins on snow days, collect tadpoles with grandma in the spring, and fill milk jugs with fresh picked blackberries in the summer. I believe in my heart the roses grown here are fed by the love found deep in the earth from the generations before me.
